Mark Dever Reads Richard Sibbes Aloud

The winter prepares the earth for the spring, so do afflictions sanctified prepare the soul for glory.

Richard Sibbes

Richard Sibbes was a theologian and minister in the Church of England in the 16th and 17th centuries. He is well known as an exceedingly modest man, an able exegete, and an eloquent Calvinist, who even “helped turn Thomas Goodwin away from Arminianism.”

Sibbes’ admirers range from J. I. Packer to Joel Beeke to Tony Reinke. Among his joyful readers is also Mark Dever, pastor at Capitol Hill Baptist Church in Washington D. C. and President of the 9Marks ministry.

In his spare time (of which he has almost none), Dever has been reading the works of Richard Sibbes aloud, and recording it. You can find an ever-growing list of these recordings on Capitol Hill Baptist’s site, here:

Thanks to guys at Bring the Books for bring this to my attention! Also be sure to check out the Works of Richard Sibbes (7 vols.) on Logos.
